Karen Thorne Alecxih Inducted into the W&M Athletics Hall of Fame

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Karen Thorne Alecxih was recently inducted into the William & Mary Athletics Hall of Fame in a ceremony held in Williamsburg on April 9th.

She was one of 10 individuals (Karen Thorne Alexih/Field Hockey/Basketball; Lang Campbell/Football; Phil Hucles/Soccer; Lindsey Lowman Miller/Lacrosse; Ed Moran/XC/T&F; Chris Rahl/Baseball; Thomas Roberts/Basketball; Ann Schnell Cliquet/Golf; Lindsay Vanderspiegel Martin/Soccer; Lynn Dameron Wolfe/Women's Gymnastics) and one team (1980 Men's Soccer) to be inducted.

Thorne Alecxih was a two sport athlete for William & Mary, excelling at field hockey and also participating in women's basketball. She was a dominant force for the field hockey program, graduating in the school's all-time top 10 in points, assists and goals. She remains fifth in points (92, 37 goals and 18 assists), her 18 assists still ranks fifth, while her 37 goals places her seventh. She made an appearance on the US National Team (in 1980) and served as captain of the Tribe squad in 1983. Additionally, she was a two time All-American (honorable mention in both 1981 and 83) and was selected as All-South Region in both 1982 and 1983. Thorne holds the school record in single-season assists (11 set in 1982) and helped the team to an appearance in the AIAW Nationals in her freshman season (by scoring 14 goals).
 
On the hardwood, she was named to the VAIAW State All-Tournament team in the 1982-83 season and led the team in shooting percentage during both her junior and senior seasons. Karen is currently a Senior Member Engineering Staff at Lockheed Martin and officiates high school field hockey and lacrosse.
