Tribe Athletics Celebrates the Dedication of the Plumeri Park Practice Facility

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The College of William & Mary held the dedication ceremony of the Plumeri Park Practice Facility at Plumeri Park on Saturday afternoon.

"Joe has touched the lives of so many here at William & Mary through his service and philanthropy," Athletics Director Terry Driscoll said. "With terms on four major boards here at the College - the Board of Visitors, the William & Mary Foundation Board, the Alumni Association Board, and the Business School Board - serving on all four boards he has literally completed the Plumeri-slam. at Tribe Athletics, I want to sincerely thank Joe for his many gifts, and this gift to the Tribe baseball program."

More than 100 people gathered for the ceremony, including Joseph J. Plumeri II '66, D.P.S. '11, athletics director Terry Driscoll, head baseball coach Brian Murphy, and the entire Tribe baseball team. Plumeri, Driscoll, and Murphy also discussed the importance of the brand new facility. Following the ceremony, guests were invited into the facility for a tour.

The indoor facility overlooks the field, running up the third base line, and provides the program with over 5,700 square feet of crucial "all-weather" practice space. With wall-to-wall artificial turf there is three 15 feet by 75 feet areas for batting and pitching, complete with netting and pitching mounds. Additionally, there are areas for specialized training equipment for strength, speed, agility and skills development. Prior to the Plumeri Park Practice Facility, the program has no comparable facility or training space to facilitate practice during inclement weather.

Joseph J. Plumeri II '66, D.P.S. '11 has a long history of philanthropy with William & Mary and has been especially supportive of the baseball program, which he was a part of during his time on campus as an undergraduate. In 1996, he provided the crucial funding that made the construction of Plumeri Park, the current home of Tribe baseball, a reality.
