The William & Mary women's swimming team fell in a pair of close matches Saturday at the JMU duals, falling to the host Dukes 163-106 and narrowly to East Carolina, 141-131. The Tribe moves to 3-5 overall and 0-2 in the Colonial Athletic Association, while the Dukes improved to 5-0 (2-0 CAA) and Pirates moved to 3-2.
The Tribe started the meet off strongly, winning the 200 medley relay against both teams in 1:46.13. The squad included
Katie Sell (Fredericksburg, Va.),
Allie Christy (Williamsburg, Va.),
Abby Mack (Wayne, Pa.), and
Jaimie Miller (Houston, Texas). Miller went on to win three individual races, including a sweep of the Dukes and Pirates in the 50 free at 23.72 seconds. The senior then came back in the very next event to win out over ECU in the 100 free, stopping the clock in 52.04 seconds. Sell also had an individual win over ECU, timing 57.71 seconds in the 100 fly.
Senior
Sophie Rittenhouse (London, England) picked up a pair of wins of her won, sweeping the 100 back in 57.22 seconds. Solo victories went to another pair of sophomores, in
Claire Williams (Apex, N.C.) and
Maria Oceguera (New Rochelle, N.Y.). Williams won out over ECU in the 100 breast with a time of 1:06.27, while Oceguera touched the wall in the 200 fly in 2:05.67 to finish ahead of JMU's roster.
William & Mary wraps up action at the JMU Duals on Sunday afternoon. The Tribe will swim against Delaware at 12:30 p.m., as well as lining up in a rematch against ECU.
