The William & Mary women's swimming team lifted its record to 3-2 on the year Saturday, edging past West Virginia 176-164 for its first win against a Power-5 opponent since February of 2000. The Tribe and Mountaineers were swimming at the Virginia Tech quad meet along side Virginia Tech and Duke, who both claimed wins against W&M 281-65 and 282-64, respectively.
Senior
Jaimie Miller (Houston, Texas) continued to impress with her leadership of the team, with a hand in all four victories over the Mountaineers on the second day of the 19-event meet. Individually, she won the 50 free in 23.62 seconds and the 200 free in 1:54.26, and she also swam on both winning relays. That included an anchor of the 200 medley relay that timed 1:45.37, bringing the baton home after legs from
Katie Sell (Fredericksburg, Va.),
Annie Valls (Miami, Fla.), and
Jess Crowley (Acton, Mass.). Miller then swam the lead-off on the meet-ending 400 free relay in 51.46 seconds, before handing off to
Emma Herold (Kohler, Wisc.), younger sister
Annie Miller (Houston, Texas), and Sell to complete the 3:28.92 win.
William & Mary is back in action next weekend, opening conference play on the road at Towson on Saturday, Oct. 29, at 1 p.m.
