The William & Mary women's swimming team put the finishing touches on its second undefeated home slate in the last three years Saturday, blowing past Davidson 172-87. The Tribe clinched a winning record for the 11th time in the past 12 years at 6-3 overall, while the Wildcats fell to 2-4 on the season. It was also the final home game for the six-member senior class, who finished 11-5 at home over the past four years, the best winning percentage (.688) since 1991 and the fewest home losses for any class since 1975.
The Green and Gold started the meet with a sweep of the top three spots in the 200 medley relay, and never let up until exhibitioning the 400 free relay at the end. In between, W&M won 10 of 12 individual events, with eight of those wins going to four double-winners. Leading off was the winning relay of
Sophie Rittenhouse (London, England),
Annie Valls (Miami, Fla.), senior
Jessie Ustjanauskas (West Hartford, Conn.), and
Annie Miller (Houston, Texas).
Ustjanauskas went out with a bang in her final home meet, sweeping the fly events and smashing her own dual-meet records in both. First, in the 200 fly, she cruised to the win in 2:03.53, .34 faster than the record she set last January against ECU. Ustjanauskas then came back in the 100 fly, and was first to the wall in 55.43 seconds, .14 faster than the time she set just last week for her third record in the span of seven days.
Her fellow senior,
Noelle Klockner (Marlboro, N.J.), picked up her first two wins of the season as well. She touched first in the 100 back in 58.69 seconds, then came back to take the 100 free in 53.52 seconds. Junior
Allie Christy (Williamsburg, Va.) ruled the breaststroke events with a 1:05.36 clocking in the 100 and 2:20.36 in the 200 breast, and classmate
Jaimie Miller (Houston, Texas) split the 50 free in 23.97 and the 200 free with a time of 1:54.47. Individual wins also went to Rittenhouse, who claimed her speciality event with a 2:04.83 win in the 200 back, and to sophomore
Emma Merrill (Fairfax, Va.), who was first to the wall in the 400 IM in 4:32.61.
William & Mary now has two weeks off, before heading to Greenville, N.C., for a tri-meet on Jan. 30 with East Carolina and South Carolina.
