Scouting the TribeW&M is coming off a great performance its last time out, taking third in the Middleburg Bank Inteercollegiate at Kingsmill, just four strokes behind the winner. That performance should serve the Tribe well this weekend, as four of the top-five teams from that tournament are in this weekend's field also. The team is averaging just over 310 strokes per round, third-best in school history.
Individually, the team this week will include junior
Alessandra Liu (Cynwyd, Pa.), the three-time CAA Golfer of the Week who is building a strong case for post-season honors. Liu won the Middleburg Bank Intercollegiate two weeks ago, her first career tournament medal, and is currently in the hunt to become the first woman in school history with a sub-75 season average. Her current rate is 75.08 strokes per round, more than half a stroke ahead of the existing record, and her .876 winning percentage (720-102) is the second-highest ever.
Also in the line-up is freshman
Katie Edelblut (New Hope, Pa.), whose 79.58 average is among the top-10 best-ever for a Tribe rookie. Her older sister, senior
Kellie Edelblut (New Hope, Pa.), is third on the team with a 79.33 average and has played all by one tournament this year. In fact, the entire senior class will be making this trip, with
Kelly Okun (Palm Beach, Fla.) and
Anna McMullen (Monroe, La.) also in the line-up. Okun is averaging 79.42 strokes per round and has a .581 winning percentage (190-137) in four appearances, while McMullen has played five and is close to her career-best with an 80.60 average.
