The William & Mary women's swimming team ran Georgetown out of the pool on Friday night, 152-53, and ran its record to 2-0 to start Homecoming with a bang. With the loss, the Hoyas fall to 2-2 on the year, while the Tribe is 2-0 for the first time since the 1988-89 season.
W&M won nine of the 11 events contested in the meet, including an impressive double from junior
Selina Fuller (Henrico, Va.). The distance star won the 1,000 free in 10:32.91, then turned right around 10 minutes later to win the 200 free from lane one in 1:54.60. Classmate
Jaimie Miller (Houston, Texas) blasted a 23.63 showing in the 50 free for the win, and though Georgetown won the 200 IM up next, the Hoyas were shutout the rest of the way.
Sophomore
Rachel Anderson (Clifton, Va.) won the 200 fly in 2:07.58 after the first intermission, and senior
Jessie Ustjanauskas (West Hartford, Conn.) won her third of the year in the 100 free, touching the wall in 52.45 seconds. Junior
Sophie Rittenhouse (London, England) kept her record perfect in the 200 back with a 2:05.59 win. Freshman
Morgan Smith (Verona, N.J.) claimed her first collegiate victory in the 500 free with a time of 5:08.34, and junior
Allie Christy (Williamsburg, Va.) finished the individual event with a 2:23.17 win in the 200 breast. The final race of the night was the 200 free relay, where the team of
Annie Miller (Houston, Texas),
Jess Crowley (Acton, Mass.),
Georgie Crompton (Brooklandville, Md.), and
Noelle Klockner (Marlboro, N.J.) won in 1:36.45.
William & Mary is back in the pool next weekend, traveling to Newark, Del., for the annual CAA Pod Meet. Once again the Tribe has drawn into the group of UNCW, Delaware, and James Madison, and will swim those teams in a quadrangular meet Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 31-Nov. 1.
