The William & Mary women's swimming team looks for a chance at 2-0 on the year this weekend, hosting Georgetown at 5 p.m. on Friday for Homecoming. The dual-meet at the Rec Center Pool can be followed remotely with live results on TribeAthletics.com, or through the Meet Mobile App.
HOMECOMING PARKING ADVISORYThe start of the meet will coincide with the conclusion of the Homecoming Parade, which means parking will be very interesting. The safest recommendation is to park at the School of Education lot, on Monticello Avenue, and follow the walking path up Compton Dr. to the Rec Center. Another option will be to try the Adair Parking Deck, and then walk up Ukrop way to approach the Rec Center from the opposite direction. Scouting the TribeW&M is 1-0 on the year and 1-0 in the CAA, after opening the year with a convincing 152-110 win over Towson two weeks ago. Senior
Jessie Ustjanauskas (West Hartford, Conn.) swept the fly events against the Tigers to earn CAA Swimmer of the Week honors, and junior
Sophie Rittenhouse (London, England) also won twice, sweeping the backstrokes.
Scouting the HoyasGeorgetown comes into the weekend at 2-1 overall, beating Towson last week and St. Francis in the opening tri-meet with Delaware. Maddy Loniewski is undefeated in the 200 IM so far this season, and Bailey Page took both the 100 and 200 free against Towson last week.
News and Notes- The meet will be held in a somewhat different format than usual for the Tribe, an 11-event schedule. Instead of swimming both the 100 and 200 versions of all three strokes, Friday will just include the 200-yard events. All five freestyle races will be swum as usual, as well as the 200 IM, the 400 medley relay, and the 200 free relay. The last time W&M swam an 11-event format was also against Georgetown, back in 2012.
- The win over Towson was the first for the Tribe women since 2005-06.
- Freshman
Morgan Smith (Verona, N.J.) already ranks ninth in school history in the 1000 free, after timing 10:18.15 against Towson.
- The Tribe's 200 medley relay broke both the dual-meet and the pool records against Towson, timing 1:43.34 which was the seventh-fastest time ever at W&M. Freshman
Katie Sell (Fredericksburg, Va.) started things off, then gave way to
Annie Valls (Miami, Fla.), Ustjanauskas, and
Jaimie Miller (Houston, Texas).
- Season Totals for the Year: 1 Dual-Meet Records, 1 Pool Records
