The William and Mary women's swimming team fell in its last dual meet of the year to East Carolina on Saturday, by a score of 150.5-111.5. Despite the loss, the Tribe finished the year at 7-4 overall and 2-2 in the CAA, its second-straight campaign of 7-4, and the three-member senior class finished with 28 wins overall and 10 wins at home, the most for the Tribe since 2009-10. The Pirates completed their season at 6-1.
Complete ResultsW&M had three victories on the day, as well as setting three dual-meet records. Ranking in both categories was the 400 free relay, which cleared the course in 3:28.46 to finish the day on a high note. The team included
Jessie Ustjanauskas (West Hartford, Conn.),
Jaimie Miller (Houston, Texas),
Noelle Klockner (Marlboro, N.J.), and senior
Megan Howard (McLean, Va.). Ustjanauskas staked the Tribe to the lead on her leg, and W&M never looked back en route to breaking the in-season mark set just last week at Old Dominion.
Howard also won one of her individual events, taking the 50 free in 23.79 seconds, and
Sophie Rittenhouse (London, England) was the team's first winner of the afternoon with a 57.63 performance in the 100 back. In the 100 fly, freshman
Abby Mack (Wayne, Pa.) made the best swim of her season so far with a second-place 55.81, crushing the Tribe dual-meet record by nearly .3 seconds and becoming the first woman to break 56 seconds in a dual-meet. Mack also moved up to 11th in school history with the race.
Also earning a dual-meet record was Ustjanauskas, third in the 200 fly at 2:03.87. It broke the previous mark of 2:04.13 set last year by Ustjanauskas in the win at Richmond. W&M's 200 medley relay began the meet with a second-place 1:44.54, the 13th-fastest time in school history. The squad included Rittenhouse, freshman
Annie Valls (Miami, Fla.), Ustjanauskas, and Howard.
With the regular season complete, William and Mary now turns its attention to the year-end invitationals. Next weekend finds the Tribe in Chapel Hill, N.C., for the UNC College Cup, its final tune-up before the CAA Championships at the end of February.
