William and Mary freshman
Jaimie Miller (Houston, Texas) was named the Colonial Athletic Association Women's Swimming Rookie of the Year on Thursday, after a vote of the league's head coaches. Miller was the only rookie to win a championship event at the CAA Championships in February, and she is the first conference award-winner for the Tribe since 2008.
Miller totaled 42 points in her three individual events at the conference meet, 11 points more than any other freshman. She won the 100 free in 50.14 seconds, and also finished fourth in the 50 free (23.09 seconds) and 10th in the 200 free (1:49.89). Miller also reached the podium in all three of her relay events, helping W&M set school records in the 200 free relay (1:31.02, 2nd), 400 free relay (3:21.03, 2nd), and the 400 medley relay (3:42.57, 3rd). For the season, she ranked third on the Tribe with 243 points, and won three races with 11 second-place finishes.
Miller is the third Tribe woman to win CAA Rookie of the Year honors, joining
Alyssa Lengle '04 who won in 2001 and
Courtney Alles '10 who was honored in 2007. She is also just the fifth swimmer to win any sort of end-of-year award from the CAA, alongside Lengle, Alles,
Ruth Anne Miller '03 (2003 Swimmer of the Year), and
Katie Radloff '10 (Swimmer of the Year in 2007 and 2008).
