The William and Mary women's track and field team wrapped up the indoor season at the ECAC Championships in Boston Sunday, scoring 30 team points with eight All-East honors over the course of the weekend. The Tribe placed seventh overall out of 46 teams, while Connecticut won the team title 75-64 over Cornell.
Complete ResultsSunday, W&M had six of its nine competitors named All-East, led by the runner-up distance medley relay. The Tribe ran 11:43.23, the fifth-fastest time ever, to earn the silver medal for the second year in a row.
Carolyn Hennessey (Herndon, Va.) led things off, followed by
Ashley Woodards (Franklinville, N.J.),
Molly Applegate (Toms River, N.J.), and senior
Michelle Britto (Woodbridge, Va.). It was the first All-East award for Woodards and Applegate, the second for Hennessey (to go with her 5,000m honor from Saturday night), and the fourth for Britto.
Also on the track, sophomore
Claire Tito (Richmond, Va.) earned All-East accolades with another lifetime-best in the 500m dash. Tito ran 1:13.79 to win her heat of the two-heat finals, and finished fourth overall. Her time is tied for the third-fastest ever run for the Green and Gold, and ranks her third in school history among runners.
The sixth All-East honor was actually the first, chronologically speaking, s the shot put began bright and early at 9:30 a.m. Sophomore record-holder
Rochelle Evans (Christiansburg, Va.) recorded the second-longest put in school history of 14.47m (47-5.75) for fifth place and her first All-East recognition. That was actually tied for the fourth-longest put of the morning, but Evans was accorded fifth place on the basis of her second-longest effort.
Also running on Sunday were three Tribe harriers in the 3,000m. Sophomore
Meghan McGovern (North Wales, Pa.) ran 9:49.49, junior
Dylan Hassett (Alpharetta, Ga.) crossed in 9:51.15, and redshirt-freshman
Erica Amatori (Cary, N.C.) went a personal-best 9:53.30. The three all finished between 20-30th in an unusually deep and fast race (18 seconds faster than last year to win, 15 seconds faster for All-East).
Next weekend, the Tribe has its two All-Americans running at the NCAA Indoor Championships in Albuquerque, N.M., while the rest of the squad prepares for the start of outdoor season March 21-22 at the Tribe Invitational at Zable Stadium.
