The William and Mary women's swimming team went 2-1 at the CAA Pod Meet in Wilmington, N.C. this weekend, lifting its season mark to 4-2 overall and 2-2 in the Colonial Athletic Association. The Tribe beat host UNCW 206.5-140.5 and Delaware 189.5-157.5, before falling to James Madison 200.5-145.5.
Complete ResultsW&M was dominant on the relays, winning 10 of 12 possible races including a sweep of the free relays
and beating both UNCW and Delaware in both medley relays. The Tribe also broke a dual-meet record in the 400 medley relay, with a 3:49.94 that was the 14th-fastest ever. The team of
Sophie Rittenhouse (London, England),
Annie Valls (Miami, Fla.),
Abby Mack (Wayne, Pa.), and
Jaimie Miller (Houston, Texas) claimed the record, breaking the previous mark of 3:51.42 that had stood since 2006. The first half of the medley relay stayed the same for the 200 medley, swapping out
Jessie Ustjanauskas (West Hartford, Conn.) and
Megan Howard (McLean, Va.) on the final two legs to go 1:45.78 and once again beat the Seahawks and the Blue Hens.
As noted before, the Tribe also swept all three opponents in the two free relays, opening and closing the meet with big wins. In the 200 free relay, Howard led off the squad of
Geogie Crompton (Brooklandville, Md.),
Greta Schneider (Moorestown, N.J.) and Miller to a time of 1:36.03. Just about 26 hours later, junior
Noelle Klockner (Marlboro, N.J.) led the 400 free relay of Howard, Mack, and Miller to a three-second margin of victory in 3:30.23.
Individually, the sophomore Miller was the Tribe's top points-getter with five wins on the weekend. She started things off with a 1:53.49 showing in the 200 free, finishing second behind only James Madison, before coming back on Sunday to sweep the 100 free in 51.58 seconds. Howard was a three-win scorer, sweeping the 50 free in 23.85 seconds, and the freshman Mack went 56.31 seconds to win the 100 fly against all opponents. That performance now ranks Mack 11th in school history in the event.
Also entering the winner's circle was Rittenhouse, who was second overall and beat both Delaware and JMU with her 2:04.41 showing in the 200 back.
Selina Fuller (Henrico, Va.) won both the 500 free (5:06.66) and the 1650 free (17:44.39) against UNCW, and freshman
Rachel Anderson (Clifton, Va.) won the 200 fly against both the Seahawks and the Blue Hens in 2:07.89. Rounding out the winners was freshman
Shannon Harrington (Philadelphia, Pa.), who was second overall in the 200 IM at 2:10.22 and beat all swimmers from James Madison and Delaware.
William and Mary has two more big meets on tap this weekend at home at the Rec Center. On Friday, the Tribe hosts Duke at 5 p.m., before turning around quickly to face Richmond at 11 a.m. Saturday morning.
