Baseball Garners National Ranking in Final 2013 Poll

WILLIAMSBURG, Va.  - After capping one of the best seasons in school history with a regional final appearance, the William and Mary baseball team was recognized in the final national polls for its performance during the 2013 campaign. The Green and Gold was ranked No. 28 nationally in the final Collegiate Baseball poll, while also receiving votes in both the USA Today and National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) rankings.

The Tribe's No. 28 national ranking is the first time in program history that the Green and Gold finished the season ranked in the Collegiate Baseball newspaper poll. The Collegiate Baseball poll is the oldest college baseball poll, and its birth took place during the 1957 college baseball season.

W&M was one of 18 programs receiving votes in the final USA Today poll and one of 21 among the also receiving votes category of the NCBWA rankings. The Tribe was the only Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) program nationally ranked or receiving votes in each of the three national polls.

Under first-year head coach Jamie Pinzino, the Tribe set a school record for wins with 39 and garnered the program's first at-large selection to the NCAA Tournament. W&M tallied its first wins in NCAA Tournament play, downing No. 21 Ole Miss in the NCAA Regional on two occasions. The Tribe advanced to the finals of the NCAA Raleigh Regional before falling to No. 7 and eventual College World Series participant N.C. State. The Tribe also posted a school-record 17 CAA victories and advanced to the championship game of the CAA Tournament.
