The William and Mary men's golf team made a bit of history Thursday, placing two men on the Colonial Athletic Association first team.  It was the first time that two Tribe golfers have ever been named first-team all-conference in the same season, and just the second time that two have earned any accolades in the same year (also in 2005).  In total, seven Tribe men have won 13 All-CAA honors since the conference began picking all-star teams in 1997, with four accounting for six first-team performances.

Senior Jeremy Wells (Hopewell, Va.) was named to his first All-CAA first-team, and tied the W&M record with his third all-conference certificate overall.  His 72.81 stroke average this season was the second-best ever for the Tribe, and he wrapped up his career with a 74.49 average, third-best all-time at W&M.  Wells won his first individual medal this spring with a victory at the Towson Invitational, and is one of just two players in school history to have more than 600 head-to-head victories in three-straight seasons.  He ranks second in rounds played with 108, second in rounds of par or better with 31, and fifth in wins with 2,317.  Earlier this month, Wells was named one of four finalists for the W&M Senior Athlete of the Year award.

Also earning a spot on the first team, and his first all-conference selection, was sophomore Alex Hicks (Cape May Court House, N.J.).  Hicks wrapped up his season by finishing second at the CAA Championships, the Tribe's first runner-up showing since 2008.  His season-average of 73.78 was a full two-stroke improvement from his freshman year, and ranks eighth all-time at W&M.  Hicks also ranks eighth in single-season wins with 717, becoming just the ninth-player ever to surpass 700 victories in a year.  With two more years still to come, Hicks already ranks seventh in school history with a 74.78 stroke average.
