The victory was keyed by wins in both relays and four individual events, as well as strong depth throughout. The Tribe began the day down 26 points due to diving, but began claiming that back right away with a 1-2 showing in the 200 medley relay. The team of
Noelle Klockner (Marlboro, N.J.),
Courtney Mizerak (Manassas, Va.),
Jessie Ustjanauskas (West Hartford, Conn.), and
Sara Shaner (Clarendon Hills, Ill.) won in 1:47.40; while second went to the quartet of
Gabrielle Mizerak (Manassas, Va.),
Emily Bart (Cherry Hill, N.J.),
Hannah Vester (Cincinnati, Ohio), and
Greta Schneider (Moorestown, N.J.) in 1:48.24.
The victories continued in the individual events, with junior
Jen Bentley (Jamestown, N.Y.) taking the 200 free in 1:53.01. Sophomore
Megan Howard (McLean, Va.) won the 50 free in 23.86, and Shaner was the big winner in the 100 free with a time of 2:24.43. Bart rounded out the individual titlists with her 2:24.43 showing in the 200 breast.
W&M also came away with seven individual silvers on the afternoon, including two from
Liz Glenn (Greenwood Village, Colo.), in the two backstrokes. She timed 57.65 seconds in the 100, and came back with a 2:02.13 in the 200 back. Senior
Caylyn Tate (Sterling, Va.) was the runner-up in the 1000 free with a time of 10:15.20, and
Courtney Mizerak picked up her silver in the 100 breast with a time of 1:08.08. Schneider and Ustjanauskas were second in the 50 free (24.38) and 100 free (52.95), respectively, and freshman
Lindsey Winston (Henrico, Va.) rounded out the silvers in 2:09.64 for the 200 IM.
Entering the 400 free relay, the Tribe was facing a narrow deficit, 136-133, and needed a win and a second score to claim the road victory. W&M got that win thanks to the efforts of the relay quartet of Klockner, Bentley, Shaner, and Ustjanauskas, who combined to time 3:29.92. Still, the win was not assured and ODU could've tied the meet with a third-place, but the team of Schneider, Vester,
Amanda Weidner (Evanston, Ill.), and
Katie Thomas (Virginia Beach, Va.) put an end to that and clinched the win with their third-place 3:36.86.
William and Mary returns home next Saturday, Feb. 2, to host Villanova
at 1 p.m. Before the meet begins, the Tribe will take a moment to honor
its five seniors who will be swimming for the final time at home.
