HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. - The William and Mary baseball team dropped a hard-fought, 10-9, affair at Hofstra Friday afternoon in game-one of its doubleheader.  The College led, 9-8, in the bottom of the ninth, but Hofstra managed to score a run in the bottom half as it sent the contest into extras.  In the 11th, the Pride plated the game winning run with a sacrifice fly to right field.  The loss drops W&M to 30-24 overall and 11-17 in CAA play, while Hofstra improves to 32-19 on the year and 19-9 in league action.

Junior starter RHP Brett Koehler worked 7.1 innings, surrendering just three earned runs while tallying seven strikeouts in the no decision.  Junior closer RHP John (2-3) Farrell took the loss in his three innings of action.  Senior LHP Cole Shain and junior LHP Matt Wainman each made relief appearances.  Hofstra's junior RHP Andrew Barbarino (4-2) earned the win after pitching two innings of relief.

At the plate, junior shortstop Ryan Williams went 3-for-6 with three RBIs, two runs scored and home run to lead the W&M bats.  Sophomore third baseman Ryan Lindemuth tallied three hits and two runs batted in, while senior designated hitter Sean Aiken recorded four hits, and a home run.  Junior second baseman Kevin Nutter was 3-for-6 with an RBI and a run scored, while classmate center fielder Ryan Brown registered three hits and four runs scored.   

The Pride got off to a quick start as it plated a pair of runs in the opening frame.  With one out, Junior second baseman Matt Ford drove in junior shortstop Dalton Rouleau with a home run to right field.

W&M responded with a run in the top half of the second.  After Hofstra recorded the inning's first out, Williams belted Joe Burg's first pitch of the count over the left field wall, cutting the Hofstra lead down to 2-1.

In the top of the third, the College took a 4-2 lead after plating a trio of runs.  Brown led off the frame with a single through the right side and later advanced to second on a Burg wild pitch.  Nutter followed with a single that found its way to center field and in the process he advanced Brown to third.  With no outs, and runners on first and third, Lindemuth pushed across Brown after ripping a double down the left field line.  The Pride proceeded to retire the next two W&M batters.  With two outs, and runners on second and third, Williams laced a single to right field, which plated both Lindemuth and Nutter, giving the Tribe a two-run advantage.

The Tribe extended its lead to 5-2 after scoring a run in the fourth.  With one out, Brown reached base with a walk, and later scored from third on a Lindemuth sacrifice fly out to right field.

In the bottom of the fifth, Hofstra tied the affair at 5-5 after plating three runs in the frame.  With two outs and runners on first and second, Rouleau connected on a three-run home run down the left field line.

Once again, W&M answered with a run in the top half of the sixth.  Brown got things going with a one out single through the right side and after stealing second, the Fredericksburg, Va., native scored on a Nutter single through the middle of the infield, giving the Green and Gold a, 6-5, lead.

In the top of the seventh, W&M extended its lead to 7-5 after Aiken connected on a solo home run to left field. 

In the bottom half, Hofstra cut the W&M lead to 7-6 after scoring a run.

W&M plated a run in the eight as it pushed the advantage back to two runs at 8-6.  After the Tribe loaded the bases, Katz drove in Brown with a fielder's choice.

Hofstra tied the contest at 8-8 after plating a pair of runs in the bottom half.

W&M went ahead after scoring a run in the ninth.  Williams led off the top half with a single through the left side.  He later scored W&M's ninth run of the afternoon after senior right fielder Stephen Arcure laced a single to center field. 

Down to its last three outs and trailing by a run, the Pride sent the affair into extra innings after plating a run in the final frame.  With two outs and the bases loaded, senior designated hitter T.J. Thomas drew a base-on-balls which plated Ford for the game's tying run.

After both teams played a scoreless 10th, Hofstra scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the 11th.  With one out and the bases loaded, Thomas drove in sophomore left fielder Kenny Jackson with a sacrifice fly to right field, giving  Hofstra the, 10-9, win.
