Tribe Baseball Hosts Longwood, Travels to George Washington in Mid-Week Affairs

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The William and Mary baseball team will conclude its home portion of the 2012 schedule when it welcomes Longwood University to Plumeri Park on Monday, May 14, for a tilt slated to begin at 7 p.m.  The following day, W&M will travel to George Washington for a contest with the Colonials scheduled to get underway at 6 p.m. in Arlington, Va.  For the year, W&M is 28-23 overall.  Fans can follow the action online at TribeAthletics.com with live audio and stats for the Longwood game and live stats for the GW contest.

Scouting the Tribe
William and Mary enters the last week of the regular season with an overall record of 28-23 and a CAA ledger of 11-16.  This week, the Tribe will welcome Longwood University to Plumeri Park before concluding the regular season with contests at George Washington and Hofstra.  This past weekend, UNCW came to Plumeri Park and swept a three-game Colonial Athletic Association series from the Green and Gold.  However, all three games against the Seahawks were decided by three runs or less.

At the plate, sophomore third baseman Ryan Lindemuth leads the Tribe with a batting average of .340 to go along with 39 RBIs, 14 stolen bases and four home runs.  From the leadoff spot, junior second baseman Kevin Nutter is batting .317 with 14 runs batted in, 10 stolen bases and an on-base percentage of .430.  For the year, senior left fielder Tadd Bower owns an average of .313. The Chesterfield, Va., native has connected on a team-high 17 doubles, while driving in 31 runs.  Freshman first baseman Michael Katz leads W&M with 47 RBIs and nine home runs.  For the season, Katz is batting .309 with nine doubles and a slugging percentage of .500.

Senior LHP Matt Davenport (6-5) has been outstanding on the mound for the Tribe this season.  For the year, Davenport owns an ERA of 1.88 through 100.1 innings of work.  His 78 strikeouts and opposition batting average of .213 are team-highs.  In his nine starts this season, junior RHP Brett Koehler has amassed a record of 6-2.  In 62.2 innings of work, Koehler has fanned 48 batters, while posting an ERA of 3.16.  Junior closer RHP John Farrell has collected eight saves in 23 appearances this season.  For the year, Farrell owns an ERA of 2.02 and has recorded 40 strikeouts in only 39.2 innings of work.

Scouting the Lancers
Head coach Buddy Bolding, who is in his 34th season at the helm of the LU program brings the Lancers to Plumeri Park on Monday, with an overall record of 23-19.  The Lancers come to Williamsburg having defeated the College's CAA brethren Old Dominion, 9-7, in their last outing.

On the mound, junior RHP Kyler Morgan (5-5) has notched five wins in 11 starts for the Lancers this season.  Through 67 innings of work, Morgan has recorded 39 strikeouts while compiling an ERA of 3.76.  Freshman reliever RHP Aaron Myers (1-0, 3.76 ERA) has tallied one win and three saves in 20 relief appearances this season.  Junior first baseman Justin Lacey is batting .390 with 30 RBIs and five home runs to lead the LU bats.  Sophomore catcher Scott Burkett has totaled 32 runs batted in and six home runs on an average of .371.  As a team, Longwood owns an ERA of 4.56 and a batting average of .296.

The Longwood Series
All-time, the College owns a 13-5 record against Longwood.  On April 4, W&M defeated the Lancers, 6-0, in Farmville, Va.  In that game, Senior LHP Cole Shain notched the win, while freshman Michael Katz tallied a home run and three RBIs.

Scouting the Colonials
Under the direction of eighth-year head coach Steve Mrowka, GW entertains the Tribe with an overall record of 20-31.  In their last outing, the Colonials downed Atlantic-10 foe Xavier, 5-3, as it took two-of-three from the Musketeers in Arlington, Va.

At the plate, sophomore utility player Owen Beightol is batting .318 with 19 RBIs and five home runs to lead GW.  Senior outfielder Stephen Oswald owns an average of .303 to go along with 31 runs batted in and three home runs.  Junior reliever LHP Kenny O'Brien (5-4) has compiled an ERA of 2.22 through his 56.2 innings of work, while collecting a team-high six saves.  Junior RHP J.T. Wauford (4-3) has notched four wins in eight starts for the Colonials, while posting an ERA of 4.98.  As a team, GW is batting .255, while owning an ERA of 4.80.

The George Washington Series
W&M owns a, 12-9, series lead over George Washington.  On March 7, the Tribe defeated the Colonials, 11-1, at Plumeri Park.  In that game, sophomore Ryan Lindemuth and junior Ryan Williams connected on early home runs as the Green and Gold stormed past the Colonials.
