Campbell Takes Series Opener From Baseball, 5-2

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — William & Mary baseball dropped the series opener against Campbell on Friday evening at Plumeri Park, falling 5-2.

The Tribe (12-16, 4-6 CAA) saw a strong start from Zach Boyd, who pitched three scoreless innings. W&M broke open a scoreless tie in the fourth when Charlie Iriotakis scored on a wild pitch after getting aboard on a leadoff walk.

Campbell (19-11, 12-1) took the lead in the top of the fifth on a two-run homer by Darnell Parker, Jr., part of a three-run inning. The Fighting Camels scored again in the sixth and seventh to extend their lead to 5-1.

Boyd posted a final line of two strikeouts, one walk, and two hits.

The Tribe mounted a comeback attempt in the eighth after Iriotakis led off with a single and Matthew Kosuda doubled to put two runners in scoring position. Iriotakis then scored on a wild pitch to cut the lead to 5-2, but two runners caught stealing ended the rally.

Connor Hensley closed the game on the mound for Campbell, earning a 12-out save. Camels' starter Camden Wimbish was the winning pitcher. Charlie Seneker was charged with the loss for W&M.
