William and Mary senior
Brandon Heroux (Westfield, N.J.) was named the Colonial Athletic Association's Field Athlete of the Week on Tuesday, after opening his spring with a conference-leading throw last weekend at the Penn Relays. He is the third Tribe athlete to earn weekly honors this season, joining teammates
Ben Katz (Manakin-Sabot, Va.) and
Josh Hardin (Sterling, Va.).
Saturday at the Penn Relays, Heroux took second in the championship flight of the javelin with a throw of 71.85 meters (235-9) in his first competition in 11 months. The three-time defending conference champion in his event, Heroux leads the CAA in 202 by more than 35 feet, and ranks 11th in the East and 16th nationally in Division I. His toss also qualified him for the 2012 Canadian Olympic Trials, and he is currently ranked fourth in Canada this year.
Heroux and the rest of the Tribe head to George Mason this weekend, May
4-5, for the 2012 Colonial Athletic Association Championships. One week
later is the IC4A/ECAC Championships at Princeton, and the East Prelims
for the NCAA Championships will take place May 25-27, in Jacksonville,
Fla. The top 12 athletes at the Prelims will qualify to go on to Des
Moines for the NCAA Finals, June 6-9.
