Tribe Overwhelms Maryland-Eastern Shore, 18-3

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The William and Mary baseball team defeated the Maryland-Eastern Shore Hawks, 18-3, on Tuesday evening at Plumeri Park.  W&M plated a run in the opening two frames and did not look back as it cruised to its 13th non-conference victory of the season.  With the win, the College improves to 20-11 overall, while UMES falls to 5-23.

Sophomore third baseman Ryan Lindemuth went 5-for-5 with five RBIs, four runs scored and a home run to pace the Tribe.  Senior left fielder Tadd Bower was 1-for-4 with four RBIs, while senior catcher Sean Aiken tallied two RBIs on a 3-for-4 performance.  Junior Ryan Williams went 1-for-4 with an RBI and senior right fielder Stephen Arcure was 1-for-2 with an RBI.  Freshman Josh Mason notched two RBIs while junior Jackson Shaver recorded an RBI to round out the W&M attack.

On the mound, freshman LHP Jason Inghram (2-2) notched his second win of the season.  In his seven innings of action, the Chesapeake, Va., native surrendered only three earned runs while striking out 11 batters.  Junior reliever RHP Brett Goodloe worked a scoreless eighth, allowing no hits on one strikeout.  In the ninth, senior RHP Garrison Sarrett retired UMES in sequence striking out the side to close out the Tuesday night win.

W&M struck first with a run in the opening frame.  Junior Kevin Nutter led off the frame with a walk, stole second and later scored after a Michael Katz sacrifice fly to center field.

In the bottom of the second, W&M tacked on a run and extended its lead to 2-0.  Lindemuth belted a Welch 1-1 offering over the left center field wall for his fourth home run of the season.

UMES got on the scoreboard with a run in the top half of the third.  Freshman second baseman Aaron Burton got the frame started with a double to left center filed and later scored when sophomore right fielder Bryon Campbell singled through the right side, making the score 2-1 in favor of the College.

The Green and Gold pushed its margin to 5-1 after plating three runs in the bottom of the fourth.  Lindemuth cleared the bases with a triple off the left center field wall and advanced home on a throwing error by the UMES shortstop.

In the bottom half of the fifth, W&M pushed across four runs across as it stretched its lead to 9-1.  Bower plated junior Ryan Brown, Nutter and Aiken with a triple to left center field.  Lindemuth drove in Bower with a single through the left side to cap the four-run frame.

After W&M plated a pair of runs in the sixth, the Hawks scored a pair of runs in the top half of the seventh.  Sophomore first baseman Jeffery Fleetwood connected on a home run to left center field, which drove in junior designated hitter Malik Wylie in the process.

In the bottom half of the eighth, W&M rounded out the scoring with five runs. Shaver made the score 16-3 after his single to right filed pushed across sophomore Bobby Klein. Mason then upped the Tribe lead to 18-3 after his single to right filed plated Lindemuth and Bower, who both registered an RBI during the five-run inning.
