Tribe Baseball Falls at Georgia State, 1-0

ATLANTA, Ga. - The William and Mary baseball team fell, 1-0, at Georgia Sate in a pitcher's duel Saturday afternoon from the GSU Baseball Complex.  The Panthers plated the game's lone run in the fifth inning en route to the win, while holding the W&M bats to just one hit in the contest.  With the loss, W&M falls to 23-15 on the year and 8-9 in CAA play, while GSU improves to 16-20 overall and 7-7 in league action.

Junior RHP Brett Koehler (4-1) took the loss, but the Glen Gardner, N.J., native was impressive, as he surrendered just one earned run while striking out six in eight innings of work.  Georgia State senior RHP Ben Marshall (4-3) went the distance for his fourth win of the season.  Marshall was effective, as he limited the Tribe to just one hit while striking out six.

In the bottom of the fifth, GSU scored the afternoon's first and only run. Junior second baseman Greg Bowder's single to right field was good enough to plate freshman designated hitter Joel Van Asch, giving GSU a 1-0 advantage.

The Tribe threatened the lead in the top half of the sixth, as it got a runner into scoring position.  With one out, senior Catcher Chris Forsten reached first base on a walk, he later advanced to second on a Marshall balk.  Following the Forsten at bat was junior center fielder Ryan Brown, who also drew a base on balls.  With two outs and runners on first and second, the Panthers escaped the inning after getting a W&M groundout to second.  For the game, Forsten went 1-for-2, as he reached base on two out of his three plate appearances.

Tribe baseball will conclude its three-game set with Georgia State tomorrow, with the first pitch from Atlanta, Ga., scheduled for 1 p.m.  Fans can follow the action online at TribeAthletics.com with live stats.
