The Tribe set pool records in both relay events, starting with the 400 medley relay. The team of
Will Manion (Haddonfield, N.J.),
Andrew Strait (Henrico, Va.),
Justin Barden (Gordonsville, Va.), and
Hunter Perrot (Falls Church, Va.) combined to swim 3:23.61, the eighth-fastest time in school history. On the other end of the meet, seniors
Ben Ward (Maitland, Fla.), Perrot, and
Sidney Glass (Mechanicsville, Va.) joined freshman
Billy Russell (Newport News, Va.) to win the 200 free relay in 1:24.67 and break the facility mark set by the Tribe back in 2009.
Strait also picked up two individual wins and another pool record as he continued his remarkable junior campaign. In the 100 breast, he stopped the clock in 55.95 seconds, the second-fastest time ever at W&M behind his own record, and he also swam 1:53.16 in the 200 IM to break his own pool record. Strait now has 13 wins this season in just five meets, after totaling 15 all of last year, and 38 in his career, tied for fifth in school history with
Daniel Mee '00.
The Tribe's three more wins all came from repeat-victors. The freshman Manion won his sixth of the year with a showing of 50.34 in the 100 back, and kept his undefeated streak in the event alive at 4-0. In the 50 free, Ward finished well ahead of the rest of the field in 21.27, winning his third race of the season. Rounding out the wins was senior
K.J. Shaw (Richmond, Va.), who timed 51.68 in the 100 fly for his fourth win of the season.
William and Mary returns to action next weekend, competing at the Hokie Fall Invitational from Thursday-Sunday, Nov. 15-17.
