WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The
William and Mary Tribe women's soccer team will open up Colonial Athletic
Association play this weekend when it hosts a pair of matches at Martin Family
Stadium at Albert-Daly Field. The
College will play the Towson Tigers at 7 p.m. on Friday, September 23, before
they take on the George Mason Patriots at 3 p.m. on Sunday, September 25.

Scouting the Tribe
The William and Mary Tribe enter Friday's match with the
Tigers having finished up the non-conference portion of their 2011 schedule
with a 5-1-2 record. Last Friday, the
College posted its fourth shutout of the season, blanking the Princeton Tigers,
2-0. W&M's non-conference winning percentage of .750 is the second-best
mark for the College in the past 10 seasons, trailing just 2006 when the Tribe
went 7-1-1 (.833).
The Tribe's offense continues to be led this season by
freshman Emory Camper, who is tied for the CAA lead with 14 points on the
strength of a team-leading five goals and four assists. Camper shares the team lead in assists with
senior Diana Weigel and sophomore Dani Rutter.
Averaging 2.5 goals a match, the Tribe's offensive attack currently
ranks 27th out of 330 teams in the country.
In goal, junior Katherine Yount has been terrific, earning a
spot on Top Drawer Soccer's National
Team of the Week on Monday. On the
season, Yount has posted a 0.83 goals against average and is tied for the
conference lead in shutouts with four.
Scouting the Tigers
The Towson Tigers come to Williamsburg on a bit of a hot
streak, having won three of its past four matches, including victories over
UMBC, Mount St. Mary's, and Campbell. On
the season, the Tigers have posted a record of 5-3. In the overall series between the Tigers and
the Tribe, the College has posted a 7-02 record in the nine total meetings.
Along with the Tribe's Camper, Towson's sophomore forward
Emily Banes is tied for the CAA lead in points with 14. Banes has scored a team-high six goals while
also dishing out a pair of assists.
Junior Cheyenne Skidmore has had a nice season as well, totaling five
goals and three assists, while freshman Sofia Read has three goals and three
assists on the year.
Senior goalkeeper Jocelyn Papciak has been solid in net for
the Tigers, making a conference-leading 46 saves on the season. Papciak has posted a goals against average of
1.39 while recording one shutout.
Scouting the Patriots
After the George Mason Patriots face the Old Dominion
Monarchs on Friday, GMU will head to Williamsburg to face the Tribe on
Sunday. On the year, George Mason has
posted a record of 3-3-2, having won three straight matched headed in to the
weekend. In the 34-match history between
the two schools, the College has posted a mark of 17-13-4.
Junior Tiana Kallenberger, an All-CAA Third-Team selection a
year ago, leads the Patriots offense with nine points on the strength of four
goals and an assist. Sophomore Nicole
Clark leads GMU with three assists, while freshman forward Liz Hodges is second
on the team with two goals.
In goal, the Patriots have used both senior Alex Bodenschatz
and sophomore Lyndse Hokason in net, with Bodenschatz getting six starts. Combined, the two have posted a goals against
average of 1.78 and recorded one shutout.
Katherine Yount Earns
National Honor
Against the Princeton Tigers on
September 15, junior goalkeeper Katherine Yount had one of her finest
performances of the season, making three saves en route to recording her fourth
shutout of the season. The 2011 season has been a great one for Yount and
the Tribe's defense, as they started the year with three-straight shutout
victories.
Schaffer, Camper Lead Tribe Past
Princeton
Headlining the Tribe's effort in its
2-0 win over Princeton on September 16 were junior Mallory Schaffer and
freshman Emory Camper, who each had a goal and an assist on the night. Freshman Emily Fredrikson notched her first
collegiate point, tallying an assist on Schaffer's score. Junior goalkeeper Katherine Yount made three
saves on way to recording her fourth shutout of the season.
Emory Camper Named to
Soccer America's National Team of the Week
On September 2-4, freshman Emory Camper was an unstoppable
force offensively, helping the College win the 2011 Tribe Nike Fairfield Inn
& Suites by Marriott Invitational.
On Friday, September 2, Camper came off the bench to score a pair of
goals, including the game winner, in W&M's win over No. 13 Georgetown. The on Sunday, September 4, Camper was at it
once again, notching her third goal of the weekend in the Tribe's 2-2 draw with
Villanova. For her efforts, Camper was
named MVP of the tournament, all-tournament team, and CAA Rookie of the Week.
W&M Wins the Nike
Tribe Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott Invitational
After battling the Villanova Wildcats to a 2-2 draw and
defeating No. 13 Georgetown, 3-1, the Tribe claimed its second tournament crown
of the season, winning the Nike Tribe Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott
Invitational. Earlier this season,
W&M won the VCU Tournament after defeating Marshall and Appalachian State.
Tribe Upends No. 13
Georgetown, 3-1, in Williamsburg
Freshman Emory Camper scored a pair of goals, including the
game winner, while junior Cortlyn Bristol also netted a goal and tallied an
assist on September 2, leading the Tribe to the win. Freshman Aly Shaughnessy and senior Diana
Weigel also recorded assists in the victory.
Junior keeper Katherine Yount was terrific in goal for the College,
making four saves while surrendering just one score.
Tribe's Emily
Fredrikson Named CAA Rookie of the Week
W&M freshman Emily Fredrikson, an Ashburn, Virginia
native, was a key component in the Tribe posting a pair of shutout victories
this past weekend in the VCU Tournament.
On August 26, the College beat Appalachian State, 2-0, before defeating
Marshall on August 28, 4-0. For her
efforts, Fredrikson was named the VCU Tournament MVP and to the All-Tournament
team.
W&M Starts Season
with Three-Straight Shutout Wins
With its 4-0 win over Marshall on August 28, the Tribe has
opened the season with three-straight shutout wins for just the second time in
program history. The last time the
College accomplished the feat was during the 1993 season when W&M started
the year with four-straight shutout victories.
Tribe Wins VCU
Tournament with Pair of Victories
After posting a 2-0 win over Appalachian State and a 4-0
victory over Marshall at the VCU Tournament, August 26-28, the College was
declared champions of the VCU Tournament.
Freshman Emily Fredrikson was named tournament MVP, while junior Mallory
Schaffer, sophomore Dani Rutter, and freshman Emily Camper joined Fredrikson on
the all-tournament team.
Cortlyn Bristol Named
CAA Player of the Week
W&M junior Cortlyn Bristol, a Preseason All-CAA
selection, started her junior campaign with a pair of goals, including the
game-winner, in the Tribe's 5-0 win over St. John's on August 19. Bristol opened the scoring with a goal in the
42nd minute and then added another in the 63rd minute. The match-winning score
was the sixth of Bristol's career.
Tribe Opens Season
with 5-0 Win over St. John's
Juniors Mallory Schaffer and Cortlyn Bristol each had a pair
of goals to lead the Tribe to the win on August 19, while freshman Anna Madden
had a goal and an assist in her first collegiate match. Sophomore Dani Rutter and freshman Emory
Camper each had a pair of assists, while senior Diana Weigel and junior Jackie
Blake-Hedges also had helpers in the victory.
The Tribe's five-goal win over the Red Storm was the biggest for the
College in a season-opening victory since the Green and Gold defeated American,
8-0, to start the 1996 campaign.
Overall, the five-goal win ties for the fourth-largest season-opening
victory in program history.
Mallory Schaffer
Named to Top Drawer Soccer's National Top 100 Upperclassmen List
After earning First-Team All-CAA, First-Team All-State, and
Third-Team All-Region in 2010, Tribe junior midfielder Mallory Schaffer was
named to Top Drawer Soccer's National Top 100 Upperclassmen list. Schaffer led the College in 2010 with 10
goals, three assists, and 23 points.
Four Tribe Players
Earn Preseason All-CAA Honors
Senior Diana Weigel, junior Mallory Schaffer, junior Cortlyn
Bristol, and sophomore Audrey Barry were all named to the Preseason All-CAA
team prior to the 2011 season. In 2010,
Schaffer and Weigel earned First-Team All-CAA honors, while Cortlyn Bristol earned
second-team all-conference accolades and Audrey Barry earned Third-Team All-CAA
and CAA All-Rookie distinctions.
Tribe Picked to
Finish Third in Preseason Poll
The William and Mary Tribe was picked to finish third in the
CAA in a preseason poll conducted by the conference's coaches before the 2011
season. With seven first place votes,
James Madison was picked to win the league, while Hofstra finished just three
points ahead of the College in second with 108 points and two first place
votes. With three first place votes, the
Tribe was 19 points ahead of fourth-place Northeastern.
