WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (June 21, 2011) - Former William and Mary standout pitcher Logan Billbrough has signed with the St. Louis Cardinals and will begin his
professional career as a member of the Johnson City Cardinals of the
Appalachian League.
After posting one of the
greatest pitching seasons in school history this spring, Billbrough was honored
as the 2011 Colonial Athletic Association Co-Pitcher of the Year. En route to
earning the honor, he led the league with a 2.58 ERA, 97.2 innings pitched and
105 strikeouts. The strikeout total ranks fourth on the Tribe's single-season
list.
Highlighting Billbrough's
list of impressive performances in 2011 were his efforts against Delaware
(March 26) and Northeastern (April 30). The Miami, Fla., native tossed a
complete-game, one-hit shutout in W&M's 6-0 win versus the Blue Hens, while
he set a school record with 16 strikeouts in his complete-game shutout in the
8-0 victory at NU.
As a senior,
Billbrough was named CAA Pitcher of the Week four times and was also selected
as the National Player of the Week by Collegiate
Baseball following his performance against Northeastern.
After posting a
7-2 record in 2011, Billbrough graduated from the College ranked seventh on the
school's career wins list (17) and fifth in career strikeouts (228).
Having won the
Appalachian League Championship in 2010, Johnson City will begin its quest for
another title when it opens the 2011 campaign tonight against the Kingsport
Mets.
