Elaina Balouris Qualifies for the ECAC Mile at CNU on Saturday

The William and Mary women's track team headed down to Christopher Newport on Saturday to take part in the Vince Brown Invitational, and came away with one ECAC qualification, one USAT&F qualification, and eight personal-best efforts.

Mile Run
In the mile, freshman Elaina Balouris (Allison Park, Pa.) improved her personal-best effort by nearly five and a half seconds to win the event in 4:58.77 and qualify for the ECAC Championships.  Classmate Kathleen Lautzenheiser (Midlothian, Va.) was just behind the qualifying standard, taking fourth in 5:00.92.

Pole Vault
In the pole vault, senior Emily Jeremiah (Mechanicsville, Va.) took third with a vault of 3.45 meters (11-3.75), and very nearly broached the ECAC standard of 3.60m.  Janice Keppler, a volunteer assistant coach for the Tribe, won the event with a personal-best vault of 4.25m (13-11.25) and qualified for the USAT&F National Indoor Championships.  That championship event will take place at the end of the month in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

800m Run
In the 800m, the Tribe had a pair of top five finishes.  Junior Avery Mattingly (Blacksburg, Va.) took fourth in 2:21.07, and sophomore Katie Buenaga (Greenville, Del.) ran 2:21.66 for fifth and a personal-best effort indoors.

Distance Medley Relay
W&M put up two DMR teams Saturday night, and swept the top two positions.  The team of Kathleen Lautzenheiser, Katie Buenaga, freshman Cara Janeczko (Clifton Park, N.Y.), and sophomore Melissa DiVecchia (Centreville, Va.) claimed the win in 12:29.33.  Taking second was the quartet of Elaina Balouris, Avery Mattingly, and freshmen Lauren Strapp (Raleigh, N.C.) and Lanie Smith (Reston, Va.), with a time of 12:31.47.

Long Jump
In the long jump, freshman Nicole Dory (Fort Worth, Texas) was third with a collegiate-best leap of 5.33m (17-6).

Triple Jump
A freshman also turned in a top performance in the triple jump, as Grace Elizabeth Oxley (Silver Spring, Md.) leapt up to fifth place with her final jump of the day at 10.60m (34-9.5).

William and Mary is back in action next weekend, traveling to Blacksburg for the Virginia Tech Challenge.
