The William and Mary women's swimming team went on the road Saturday and won 12 of 14 swimming events to cruise past Davidson, 189-105. The win evened the Tribe's record at 2-2 on the year, while the Wildcats fell to 0-3 overall.
400 Medley Relay
The winning began in the 400 medley relay, where the quartet of
Liz Glenn (Greenwood Village, Colo.),
Liz Collins (Alexandria, Va.),
Gabrielle Mizerak (Manassas, Va.), and
Sara Shaner (Clarendon Hills, Ill.) took the gold in 3:55.59. W&M nearly took second as well, with the team of
Katie Thomas (Virginia Beach, Va.),
Emily Bart (Cherry Hill, N.J.),
Brodde Lamb (Charlottesville, Va.), and
Kelly Fini (Manassas, Va.) being closely touched out before taking third in 3:59.60.
1000 Free
The Tribe distance crew swept through the 1000 free, led by
Caylyn Tate's (Sterling, Va.) winning time of 10:27.17.
Jen Bentley (Jamestown, N.Y.) was second in 10:34.58, and
Meghan Baker (New Rochelle, N.Y.) rounded out the trio in 10:39.76.
200 Free
W&M earned another sweep in the 200 free, which included the first of four wins for senior
Molly Emery (Burke, Va.). Emery easily outdistanced the field to win in 1:54.26, with
Jen Bentley in second with a time of 1:57.42, and
Sara Shaner third in 1:57.79.
100 Breast
Freshman
Liz Collins took first for the first time in her collegiate career in the 100 breast, touching the wall in 1:07.85 for the win. Senior
Liza McDevitt (Jenkintown, Pa.) was second in the event, timing 1:08.22.
200 Fly
Another victory for the senior class and another sweep for W&M came in the 200 fly, as
Hailey Hewitt (Fairfax, Va.) flew to victory in 2:06.56. Freshman
Brodde Lamb was second in 2:10.11, and classmate
Rebecca Spicher (Chesapeake, Va.) was third in 2:11.43.
50 Free
Heading into the first diving break,
Molly Emery won her second event of the day after timing 24.85 seconds in the 50 free.
100 Free
Sara Shaner earned her individual win in the 100 free, coming in ahead of
Hailey Hewitt in 53.73 to the senior's 54.04.
200 Back
Liz Glenn continued to impress in the 200 back as she has all season long, clearing the course in 2:04.42.
Sammie Cooper (Mt. Kisco, N.Y.) was second in 2:08.33, and
Katie Thomas rounded out the top-three in 2:08.49.
500 Free
Caylyn Tate returned in the 500 free, winning her second event of the day with a time of 5:10.36.
Rebecca Spicher was second in 5:11.89, and
Jen Bentley earned her third podium appearance after finishing third in 5:11.95.
100 Fly
Molly Emery's final individual win came in the 100 fly, where she powered to a 58.26 showing.
Hailey Hewitt was a narrow-third, timing 58.39 seconds to be touched out by a mere .01 seconds.
200 IM
Brodde Lamb recorded the final individual win for the Tribe in the 200 IM, timing 2:08.84 to outstrip the field by more than three seconds.
Devin Henry (Roanoke, Va.) was third in 2:13.56.
400 Free Relay
W&M completed its winning streak in the 400 free relay, as
Molly Emery led off teammates
Gabrielle Mizerak,
Sara Shaner, and
Liza McDevitt to a win in 3:33.84.
Jen Bentley,
Gabby Famularo (Virginia Beach, Va.),
Kelly Fini, and
Katie Thomas combined to finish third, timing 3:38.65.
100 Back
W&M also took second and third in the only two swimming events it didn't win, starting with the 100 backstroke.
Sammie Cooper was second in 1:00.22, and
Liz Glenn was third in 1:00.41.
200 Breast
In the 200 breaststroke, junior
Emily Bart was a narrow second in 2:25.29, and
Liz Collins was third in 2:25.71.
William and Mary returns to the pool next weekend at the CAA Pod Meet in Fairfax, Virginia. The Tribe will take on four conference opponents over Friday and Saturday, November 4-5, including James Madison, George Mason, Northeastern, and Old Dominion.
