The William and Mary men's cross country team successfully defended its Colonial Athletic Association Championship Saturday, scoring 27 points to win the conference title for the 12th year in a row. George Mason was a distant second with 62 points, and Northeastern was third with 70 points. The Huskies also had the individual champion in the eight-kilometer race, as Eric Jenkins ran 24:46 to pace the field.
The Tribe's championship squad was led by junior
Zach Gates (Fishers, Ind.), who ran 25:05 to finish second overall. Senior
Tom Burke (Edina, Minn.) was fourth in 25:17, crossing the line a step ahead of redshirt-freshman
Rad Gunzenhauser (Pittsburgh, Pa.) who was credited with the same time.
Alex McGrath (Marlborough, N.H.) was sixth overall in 25:24, and
Chris Tyson (Arlington, Va.) crossed the line in 10th at 25:31 to finish out the scoring line-up.
Tyler Jones (Chalfont, Pa.) was right behind him in 25:37 for 11th, giving the Tribe six runners on the all-conference team, and
John Muller (LaGrangeville, N.Y.) nearly made it seven, finishing one spot shy of the cutoff in 13th with a time of 25:44.
Zach Tennant (Fairview, W.Va.) was 15th in 25:55, and
Liam Anastasia-Murphy (Gloucester, Mass.) was 17th in 26:04.
William and Mary will host its annual Massey Cancer Center 5K fundraiser next Saturday, November 5th, before heading to the Southeast Region Championships the following weekend, November 12th in Louisville, Kentucky.
