The William and Mary volleyball team fell in another tough match Saturday night, losing to Towson 3-0 at home. The Tribe is now 7-12 on the year, while Towson improves to 17-7 and 4-3 in the Colonial Athletic Association.
Despite the loss, the Tribe's prospects were buoyed by the continuing stellar play of redshirt-freshman
Monika Stanciauskas (Wheaton, Ill.), who had a match-high 13 kills while hitting a sparkling .600 and adding two blocks, three digs, and an ace. Her hitting performance is tied for 11th-best all-time at the College, and is the best single-match effort since
Megan Eisenmann '06 hit .667 against UNCW in 2004. It is also just the third time since 1993 that a Tribe player has hit .600 or better while taking at least 20 attempts. For the weekend, Stanciauskas averaged over 3.8 kills per set and hit .512 (23 kills, 2 errors, 41 attempts).
Also of note on the night, classmate
Paulette Grand Pre (Laguna Beach, Calif.) had eight kills, nine digs, and a pair of blocks (one of them solo). True freshman
Manon Murray (Greensboro, N.C.) had five kills and eight digs, and junior
Molly Krull (Raleigh, N.C.) had 21 assists and two blocks while coming on in reserve. Sophomroe middle
Alexandra Ciaccio (Houston, Texas) had five kills as well, and contributed on a block.
William and Mary is back in action next weekend, hosting George Mason and James Madison in the concluding matches of this six-match homestand. The Patriots come to Williamsburg on Friday night at 7 p.m., with the Dukes following on Saturday at 7 p.m.
