SPOKANE, Wash. - Former William and Mary standout quarterback
R.J. Archer will continue his professional playing career as a member of the Spokane Shock of the Arena Football League, the team announced today.
En route to leading the Tribe to an 11-3 record last season and a trip to the NCAA Semifinals, Archer earned second-team all-conference honors. The Earlysville, Va., native ranked second in the Colonial Athletic Association in both passing yards per game (198.4) and total yards per game (216.6).
Following his outstanding collegiate career, Archer signed as an undrafted free agent by the Minnesota Vikings.
"R.J. has a strong arm and he is very athletic," Shock Head Coach Rob Keefe said in a statement on the team's official website. "Under Coach Biletnikoff's tutelage, I really think RJ can be a successful QB in this league."
The Shock is the reigning ArenaBowl Champion and posted a league-best 16-3 record last season.
