Claire Zimmeck Signs With Washington, Makes First Roster Cut

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Three-time All-American Claire Zimmeck officially signed with the Washington Freedom Monday, after the organization drafted her in the ninth round of the inaugural Women's Professional Soccer Draft last month. Zimmeck is part of the team's 24-player roster, which was cut from 28 Monday and will be cut again to 18 and four developmental players on March 25 before the Freedom plays the league's first-ever game March 29 at Los Angeles.

Zimmeck, who played the final 32 minutes of the Freedom's 1-0 loss to Sky Blue FC Saturday, finished her career at William and Mary as the program's third-most prolific goal scorer with 57 tallies and a school-record 25 game-winning goals. A three-time All-American and two-time CAA Player of the Year, Zimmeck earned first-team all-conference honors in 2008 after leading W&M to its third-straight regular season title, and scoring 15 goals and a career-high six assists. She also was named the 2006 Virginia Player of the Year and was a four-time all-state selection.
