URBANA, MD - Rising William and Mary senior golfer
Doug Hurson (Bethesda, Md.) was the medalist at the sectional qualifier at Worthington Manor in Urbana, Ma. after shooting a 139 (-5). This marks the second time that Hurson has qualified for the U.S. Amateur. Hurson qualified in 2004 when he was a junior in high school.
Hurson, a 2006-07 All-Region honoree, had a great junior campaign for the Tribe. He lead the team at the Georgetown Hoya Invitational, tying for 18th place, and then capped his season by shooting a final round 69 to improve 14 spots and finish in a tie for 13th at the CAA Championships.
Hurson joins fellow Tribe golfer
Scott Saal (Virginia Beach, Va.) in qualifying for the U.S. Amateur this summer. The Tribe opens the 2008-09 season in Cambridge, Md. when they play in the Maryland Intercollegiate at the Chesapeake Golf Resort on September 6.
The U.S. Amateur will be held this year at Pinehurst Resort and Country Club, August 18-24.
