Bill Bray Agrees To Terms With Montreal Expos

WILLIAMSBURG, VA - William and Mary junior lefthanded pitcher Bill Bray (Virginia Beach, VA/Ocean Lakes) agreed to terms with the Montreal Expos today, the team that drafted him 13th overall in the first round in last June's Major League Baseball Amateur Draft. Bray received a $1,750,000 signing bonus.

Bray, a two-time second-team All-CAA selection, is the first, first round draft pick in school history. He finished the 2004 season with a 4-4 record and a 2.44 ERA with eight saves while striking out 84 batters and walking just 15 in 59 innings pitched. For his career, Bray sported an 11-10 record with a school record 11 saves, while striking out 192 batters in 148 innings pitched.

He was the second lefthanded pitcher chosen in the draft behind Vanderbilt pitcher Jeremy Sowers, who was grabbed by the Cleveland Indians with the sixth pick. Last year's 13th overall pick, LSU shortstop Aaron Hill, received a signing bonus of $1,675,000 after he was selected by the Toronto Blue Jays.

Bray will fly to Montreal today to sign his contract and meet with the Expos front office personnel before starting his caeer in the minor leagues.
