WILLIAMSBURG, VA - William and Mary forward Taline Tahmassian (Great Falls, VA) tallied two goals, while Katie Hogwood (Reston, VA) and Lydia Sturgis (Jacksonville, FL) each found the back of the net once as the Tribe women's soccer team defeated UNC Wilmington 4-1 this afternoon at Busch Field. The Tribe improves to 10-6-2, 4-3-1 in the CAA, while the Seahawks fall to 8-7-2, 2-3-2 in the CAA.

Today's win clinched the Tribe's 22nd consecutive winning season, which is tied for the longest nationally with North Carolina and Connecticut.

Sturgis got the Tribe on the board in the 24th minute. Gathering a loose ball just outside and to the right of the 18-yard box, Sturgis fired a low, twisting shot past UNCW goalkeeper Rachael Wilson into the left corner for her third goal of the year.

Tahmassian stretched the lead to 2-0 10 minutes later, when she ran down a through ball down the left sideline, beat Wilson and lofted home a high-arcing shot with the outside of her right foot for her team-leading tenth goal of the year.

The Seahawks answered right back four minutes later, when Kristine Mengle controlled a loose ball at midfield, dribbled down the right side and sent a cross to Justine Hammer, who was unmarked at the six-yard spot, and fired home a shot into the middle of the net to trim the lead to 2-1.

2-1 at the half, the College pulled ahead for good in the 54th minute. Hogwood carried the ball down the right side and just as she reached the goal line, sent a cross to Tahmassian, who flipped in her 11th goal of the year to widen the lead to 3-1.

Two minutes and two seconds later, the Tribe ended the scoring when Ali West (Columbia, MD) corralled a loose ball in the left flank deep into Seahawk territory, and fired a pass back post to a streaking Hogwood, who fired home her eighth goal of the year, to give the Tribe a 4-1 lead, which would be the final.

The Tribe dominated the match from start to finish, as it outshot the Seahawks 17-5, and held a 2-1 advantage in corner kicks. Seven Tribe seniors-Erica Cooper (Norfolk, VA), Tara Flint (Sterling, VA) Rebecca Sowden (Auckland, New Zealand), Kim Stokes (Richmond, VA), Lindsey Vanderspiegel (Chesapeake, VA), Nikki Villott (Pleasanton, CA) and Kristen Wolfer (Clifton, VA)M- played the final home matches of their careers today, and they were honored prior to the match.

W&M is back in action Wednesday night at 7:00 when it will conclude the regular season with a match at Old Dominion.
