Tribe Football Wraps Up Spring With Green and Gold Game

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The William and Mary football team concluded its spring practice season with the annual Green and Gold Game before approximately 2,000 fans at Zable Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Offensively, four quarterbacks saw significant action, as Mike Paulus competed three passes for 37 yards and a touchdown, while Brent Caprio was 9-of-15 for 87 yards. Terrance Schmand was also productive, completing 7-of-9 passes for 79 yards, while Michael Graham was 7-of-14 for 81 yards.

Wide receiver C.J. Thomas provided a number of highlights, as he totaled four catches for 60 yards and scored a touchdown on a 13-yard end around. Among his grabs were a 28-yard reception from Caprio and a 19-yard catch from Schmand.

Wide receiver Chase Hill finished with three catches for 40 yards and hauled in a 27-yard touchdown catch from Paulus, while tight end Gareth Hissong registered four receptions for 33 yards. Wide receiver Ryan Moody also provided one of the afternoon's big plays, as he hauled in a 30-yard reception down the left sideline from Graham.

The Tribe defense was effective against the run all afternoon and came up with a pair of fourth-down stops. Individually, defensive end Bryan Jean-Pierre had a sack and a quarterback hurry, while defensive end Kyle O'Brien and safety Terrell Wells also registered sacks. Cornerback B.W. Webb recorded the only interception of the game, while defensive tackle Mike Stover, linebacker Dante Cook and safety Jake O'Connor all had two pass break-ups apiece.

At the completion of the game, the team announced the captains for the 2010 season (as derived from a team vote) with five players garnering the honor: cornerback Ben Cottingham, linebacker Evan Francks, offensive tackle Keith Hill, Jr., running back Courtland Marriner and linebacker Jake Trantin.

Another major team award was announced Saturday, as Stover was selected as the recipient of the John A. Stewart Winter Warrior Award, which is given annually to the player, or players, who best exemplify the qualities of dedication, effort and achievement that defined Stewart's career at the College. Awardees are judged on their improvements both on the field and in the off-season training program.
