After establishing himself as one of the top players in the nation this season, senior defensive end
Adrian Tracy has been selected to the Walter Camp Football Foundation FCS All-America Team. The team was chosen by head coaches and sports information directors of FCS schools.
A Buchanan Award candidate and two-time first-team all-conference honoree, Tracy was one of the country's most dominant defensive players this season. The Sterling, Va., native ranked seventh nationally with 1.57 tackles for a loss per game and 15th at 0.79 sacks per game. With 12 sacks, he equaled the single-season school record established by Luke Cullinane in 1996. Additionally, Tracy ranked sixth in the conference in tackles among defensive linemen with 5.6 per game.
In addition to registering an outstanding senior season, Tracy has been one of the country's top defensive players throughout his career. His 62.5 tackles for a loss leads the nation among all active players, while he ranks third with 31 career sacks ? a W&M record. He also started every game of his career (47) en route to establishing a school record.
While his individual statistics were impressive, his contributions also helped the Tribe post one of its best seasons ever defensively in '09. W&M boasted the nation's top rushing defense (61.1 ypg), while it ranked second in total defense (229.8 ypg) and scoring defense (12.1 ppg). Additionally, the unit ranked third with 3.43 sacks per game and eighth with 8.0 tackles for a loss per game. In doing so, the College advanced to the NCAA Semifinals and equaled a program record with 11 victories.
Tracy becomes the seventh Tribe player to earn All-America honors from the WCFF. Previous honorees include Lang Campbell (2004), Mike Leach (1999), Josh Beyer (1996), Darren Sharper (1996), Craig Staub (1993) and Reggie White (1990).
