Baseball Topped by Towson in Slugfest

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — William & Mary came up on the short end of a slugfest on Saturday, loading the bases in the ninth but falling to Towson 11-10 in game two of the series.

After Towson (20-29, 8-18 CAA) took a 4-0 lead in the top of the first, the Tribe (20-28, 11-15) answered immediately with a six-spot in the home half of the inning. Sam Kaczmarek started the scoring with an RBI single before a two-run double by Matthew Kosuda made it 4-3.

Justin Summers singled to drive in a run and tie the game at 4-4. That set up Anthony Greco's two-run ground-rule double to give W&M its first lead.

The Green & Gold extended its advantage when Louie Bartletti hit a two-run homer to right center, making it 8-4.

Towson tied the game with four runs in the fifth. The Tigers took the lead back in the top of the fifth on a three-run homer by Frank Adamski, Jr.

Noah Hertzler provided extended innings for the bullpen, going four innings without allowing a run from the sixth to the ninth.

The Tribe mounted a comeback beginning in the eighth when Bartletti singled through the right side to drive in Laskofski for a run. Kosuda would later add a a sacrifice fly to trim the deficit to 11-10.

In the bottom of the ninth, W&M loaded the bases, but a groundball double play ended the chance of a comeback.
