Iriotakis’ Six RBI Helps Baseball Top Towson on Senior Day

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — In his final game at Plumeri Park, Charlie Iriotakis had a career day with six RBI as William & Mary picked up a win over Towson on Senior Day, 14-6, on Sunday afternoon.

Iriotakis went 3-for-5 at the plate with a home run. As a team, the Tribe (21-28, 12-15 CAA) racked up 14 hits in the contest.

W&M struck first on a run-scoring double play with the bases loaded to go ahead 1-0. After Towson (20-30, 8-19) went ahead on a two-run home run from Brian Heckelman in the third, W&M answered with four runs in the bottom of the frame. Louie Bartletti tied the game with an RBI double before Iriotakis cleared the bases, mashing a three-run homer to right field to put the Tribe ahead 5-2.

Owen Pierce went three innings in his start, striking out four while allowing two runs. The Tigers evened the score in the fourth when they plated three runs before scoring once more in the fifth.

The Tribe put together another big inning in the fifth, posting a four-run frame to take a 9-5 lead. Sam Kaczmarek and Matthew Kosuda had RBI doubles in the inning while Iriotakis drove in another with a single to second base.

The Green & Gold continued to pour it on in the sixth when Kosuda and Iriotakis hit consecutive RBI base knocks. In the seventh, Jackson Woolwine punctuated the day with a two-RBI single that made it a 14-6 ballgame.

On the mound, freshman Connor Jernigan went three innings and limited the Tigers to just one unearned run to earn the win. Luke Calveric closed the game on the bump for W&M, tossing two shutout frames.
