Tribe Posts Season-High in Runs in Dominant Win Over N.C. A&T

GREENSBORO, N.C. — William & Mary posted its highest-scoring game of the season in a 14-5 victory over North Carolina A&T at World War Memorial Stadium on Friday evening in the series opener.

It was the 10th come-from-behind win of the season for the Tribe (17-23, 8-11 CAA), who erased an early four-run deficit.

North Carolina A&T (11-29, 3-16) took a 4-0 lead after the first inning. The Tribe started its comeback in the top of the second when Louie Bartletti homered to right field for the visitors' first run.

W&M further cut into the deficit in the third as Jamie Laskofski hit a two-run homer to make it 4-3. Two batters later, Matthew Kosuda tied the game on an RBI triple that drove in Charlie Iriotakis.

N.C. A&T got one run back in the third on an RBI single from Andrew Tinsley. After a scoreless fourth, the Tribe took the lead in the fifth with a four-spot. The rally started with a leadoff walk by Laskofski, who later scored on an RBI single by Sam Kaczmarek.

W&M took advantage of a pair of A&T errors that allowed two runs to score as the Tribe went ahead 7-5. Kevin Francella then singled in another run for an 8-5 lead.

In the sixth, the Tribe plated four more. Iriotakis recorded a sacrifice fly before Bartletti added another extra-base hit with an RBI double. Witt Scafidi then extended the cushion with a two-run double plating Kosuda and Bartletti as W&M went ahead 12-5.

Jack Weight settled things down on the mound, pitching 5 ⅓ innings of shutout ball. The sophomore racked up four strikeouts and scattered three hits.

Weight got help from his defense in the eighth when Kosuda turned a 5-4-3 inning-ending double play. Laskofski then made a diving catch in shallow left in the ninth inning to end the game.

Weight earned the win for the Green & Gold. A&T starter Agyei Quinichett was tagged with the loss.
