Baseball Post Two Wins, Pitches Combined Shutout to Sweep N.C. A&T

GREENSBORO, N.C. — William & Mary picked up a pair of decisive victories at North Carolina A&T on Sunday afternoon, winning the completion of Saturday's suspended game 21-7 before pitching a combined shutout in the second game, 9-0, to complete the series sweep.

The Tribe (19-23, 10-11 CAA) set another season-high in runs in the opener, scoring all but one inning. In game two, the pitching trio of Owen Pierce, Zach Boyd, and Tom Bourque teamed up to deliver W&M's first shutout of the season.

GAME ONE (COMPLETED FROM SATURDAY)
After N.C. A&T (11-31, 3-18) took a 2-1 lead in the second inning, the Tribe exploded for six runs in the third. Sam Kaczmarek started the scoring with an RBI double before Iriotakis drove in another run with a single to make it a 3-2 game.

With the bases full, Witt Scafidi hit a grand slam to left field to put W&M ahead 7-2.

Zack Potts got through four innings in his start, allowing just one earned run. The graduate right-hander struck out four Aggie hitters and walked none.

N.C. A&T got three runs back in the fourth, but the Tribe quickly responded in the fifth when Jamie Laskofski singled in a run. Kaczmarek added another with an RBI double, one of his three doubles on the afternoon, to make it a 10-5 Tribe lead.

The visitors continued to pour it on in the sixth, with Justin Summers delivering an RBI single and Anthony Greco adding another run on a triple.

In the seventh, Louie Bartletti went deep for a two-run homer, giving W&M a 15-5 lead. Bartletti would homer again in the eighth with another two-run shot, part of a six-run inning. Kevin Francella and Matthew Kosuda both recorded RBI hits in the frame.

Charlie Richwine was the winning pitcher, going three innings with two runs. Gavin Sentell took the loss for A&T.

  • Bartletti had his second career five-hit game, going 5-for-5 at the plate with four runs and four RBI.

Kosuda gave the Tribe a pair of insurance runs in the sixth when he singled to drive in Laskofski and Kaczmarek that made it a 5-0 advantage

Kosuda would add to his RBI total in the eighth when he plated Kaczmarek with another single. The third baseman was perfect on the day, going 5-for-5. Another run came in to score on a fielding error as the Tribe went ahead 8-0.
