Chase Lowe Named Dean Ehlers Leadership Award Winner

RICHMOND, Va. - William & Mary men's basketball senior Chase Lowe was named the recipient of Coastal Athletic Association's prestigious Dean Ehlers Leadership Award, the league announced on Friday.
 
It marks the seventh time since the award was established in 1995 that a Tribe student-athlete received the distinction. The seven honorees is tied for the most in CAA history with UNCW. Lowe joined a group of former Tribe standouts that includes David Schneider (2010), Quinn McDowell (2011, 2012), Tim Rusthoven (2014), Tom Schalk (2015), and Paul Rowley (2019).
 
The Dean Ehlers Leadership Award recognizes the player that, "embodies the highest standards of leadership, integrity and sportsmanship in conjunction with his academic and athletic achievement." The distinction is named after former James Madison athletic director Dean Ehlers, who was a founding member of the conference, served as its first President and was a recognized leader through his membership on numerous NCAA Committees. 
 
A three-year representative of W&M's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, Lowe has been active in the Williamsburg community with food drives, reading to local students at Matoaka Elementary School and giving guitar lessons in his spare time. The Weddington, N.C., native was named to the CAA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll in three seasons and will earn his bachelor's degree in public policy in May.
 
On the court, Lowe has etched his name in the Tribe record book. He ranks 11th in program history in games played (119), while sitting 12th  in career assists (324) and 16th in rebounding (635). Lowe is just the third player in W&M lore, along with John Lowenhaupt '78 and Omar Prewitt '17, to tally 1,000 points, 600 rebounds, and 300 assists in a Tribe uniform.
 
This season, Lowe is averaging 9.3 points, 5.8 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 1.2 steals per game, while starting all 30 games in leading the Tribe to a 19-11 record. He became the 42nd player in program history to score 1,000 career points at W&M with this 14 in a victory at N.C. A&T on Feb. 28. He ranks among the CAA leaders in assist-to-turnover radio (third at 2.3), assists (seven at 3.8), steals (eighth at 1.2), rebounding (14th at 5.8), and free throw shooting (17th at 73.3%).
 
Lowe and the Tribe are the No. 6 seed and will open play in the 2026 Air Force Reserve CAA Championship when it faces No. 11 seed Elon in the second round on Saturday, March 7. Tip-off is set for 8:30 p.m. from CareFirst Arena in Washington, D.C., and the game will be broadcast on FloCollege.
