Baseball Takes Series From Georgetown With 7-3 Win

TYSONS, Va. — A solid start from Zach Boyd combined with a dominant bullpen performance led William & Mary to a 7-3 win over Georgetown on Sunday to win the series.

The Tribe (7-11) used three arms out of the bullpen that combined to hold the Hoyas to two runs over five innings, allowing just one walk and no extra-base hits.

William & Mary started quickly, going ahead 1-0 in the first inning on three singles. Matthew Kosuda delivered an RBI knock to drive in Jamie Laskofski for the game's first run.

Boyd held Georgetown (13-8) scoreless over the first three innings. Laskofski added to the visitors' lead with a solo home run in the top of the third. Boyd would go four innings with one earned run to his ledger.

In the fourth, the Tribe extended its advantage when Connor Chavez hit an RBI single to right center scoring Jett Humphreys. Chavez and Ryan Santangelo then executed a double-steal of second and home, with Santangelo coming home to score W&M's fourth run.

After surrendering a solo homer in the fourth, Boyd got help from his defense when Ecker made a running catch in center field and doubled off Ashtin Gilio at first base.

Seneker came in to relieve in the fifth inning. He allowed an RBI single that made it 4-2 but proceeded to retire seven of the next eight Georgetown batters. In the seventh, Trey Christman blasted a two-run homer that gave W&M its four-run lead back at 6-2.

The Hoyas scored one run in the bottom of the eighth, but Seneker limited the damage as he stranded runners at the corners. W&M added one more in the ninth when Louie Bartletti stole home on a pickoff attempt at first base.

Daniel Lingle shut the door in the bottom of the ninth, retiring all three batters he faced to earn the save. Boyd was credited with the win while Spencer Seid took the loss for Georgetown.
