Played at Abingdon High School where he was named the Virginia Class 3 State Player of the Year… Three-time VHSL first team all-state selection… Three-time district player of the year and two-time all-region player of the year… Tabbed to the all-district and all-region team four times… Holds the Abingdon record for most career strikeouts (281) and wins (27), the latter tied for seventh-most in VHSL history... Also tied Abingdon's single-season home run record… In the classroom, earned a 4.12 GPA and was a member of the National Honor Society.
