Tribe Homers Twice But Falls at Longwood, 8-6

FARMVILLE, Va. — Matthew Kosuda and Trey Christman both homered but it was not enough as William & Mary fell to Longwood 8-6 on Tuesday evening at Buddy Bolding Stadium.

William & Mary (7-12) took the lead in the first inning when Chase Ecker manufactured a run. After drawing a leadoff walk, Ecker stole second base before coming home on a two-base wild pitch.

The Lancers (15-6) had the response in the bottom of the inning as a pair of RBI doubles put them ahead 2-1.

Matthew Kosuda tied the game in the second on a solo home run before Longwood regained the advantage on Jae'den Carter's RBI single.

Longwood broke the game open momentarily in the third inning, plating three runs off Tribe starter Jack Pye. Daniel Lingle entered from the pen, working out of a jam with two runners in scoring position to limit the damage.

From there, the visitors chipped away at the deficit. Trey Christman led off the fourth with a home run, his second in as many games. An RBI double by Louie Bartletti then made it 6-4 in favor of Longwood.

Luke Calveric took the ball in the fourth and set down the Lancers in quick order, retiring nine of the 12 batters he faced with no hits.

W&M tied the game in the sixth inning. Witt Scafidi led off with a double and came around to score on an RBI groundout by Kosuda. After a walk to Bartletti, Sam Kaczmarek laced a double in the right center gap to make it a 6-6 game.

Longwood took the lead in the seventh, scoring two runs to go ahead 8-6. Hank Lippman held the door with a scoreless eighth inning, but the Tribe offense was unable to rally to tie the game.

Wyatt Bunch was the winning pitcher for Longwood. Lippman took the loss for the Tribe.
