ELON, N.C. - William & Mary track & field kicked off the 2026 outdoor season in style at the Phoenix Invitational on Friday. The Tribe produced two freshman records and a pair of events wins.
Amelia Bawcombe broke the freshman record on the women's side in the hammer throw, while
Uriah Harris won the discus for the men and in the process broke the freshman record. The other Tribe victory came from graduate student
Kalli Knott who on the pole vault, covering a height of the 3.68m (12-2.75).
Bawcombe topped the program's rookie record on her final throw, registering a mark of 55.98m (183-8) to finish second. She improved the previous rookie mark of Leia Mistowski (55.52m / 182-2), and her throw ranks third among all-time performers in school history behind only Mistowski (62.89m / 206-4) and Keeley Suzenski (58.99m / 193-6).
Harris and senior
Ross Bazzichi finished third and fourth in the hammer throw. Harris's best throw was 50.08m (164-3) followed closely by Bazzichi's 48.56m (159-4).
In the discus, Harris uncorked a toss of 55.83m (183-2) on his penultimate attempt, which ended up being the best mark of the event. He better the previous freshman record of 52.60m (172-7) from KJ Cook in 2018. In fact, the throw was also the third-best in program history, trailing only Taylor Frenia's 58.70m (192-7) at the 2017 CAA Championships and Cook's 56.73m (186-1) at the 2019 NCAA Championships.
