Men's Basketball Travels to CAA Leader UNCW on Thursday Night

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – William & Mary men's basketball heads to CAA leader UNCW on Thursday night for a national TV broadcast. The game, which is scheduled for a 7 p.m. tip, will be televised on CBS Sports Network with Dave Ryan and Dalen Cuff on the call from Trask Coliseum. 

W&M fans can listen into the radio broadcast on the Tribe Sports Network with Jay Colley on the call. The broadcast will be available on The Tide 92.3 FM in Williamsburg, the flagship station of the Tribe Sports Network.

W&M News and Notes
 
- While UNCW leads the all-time series at 51-34, W&M has won 15 of the last 26 meetings between the teams dating back to 2013. The Tribe snapped a four-game Seahawks win streak in the series with a 77-70 victory in Williamsburg on Jan. 22.
 
- The Tribe tied the program record with 34 made free throws vs. Campbell on Saturday. It marked the fourth time W&M hit 34 free throws in a game and first since 2001. The 34 made free throws are also the most in the CAA this season. The Tribe leads the CAA and ranks 86th nationally in free throw % (74.8). The Green and Gold is also 59th nationally in free throws made (17.5) and 88th (39.1) in free throw rate.
 
- W&M has jumped 89 spots from the preseason KenPom ratings, as of Feb. 4, to No. 142. The improvement is the 17th largest in the country, and the Tribe earned its highest rating since 2016. W&M is also currently No. 123 in the NCAA NET Rankings, as of Feb. 3, which is the third best in the CAA. The Tribe was as high as No. 50, which was its highest standing since the tool was introduced in 2018-19.
 
- The Tribe has also been one of the best teams in the country in terms of sharing the basketball under head coach Brian Earl. W&M is averaging 18.7 assists per game this season, which leads the CAA and ranks eighth in the country. W&M is also eighth nationally in assist rate, assisting on 65% of its field goals. The Tribe has dished out 20 or more assists on nine occasions and is 8-1 in those games. Brian Earl-coached teams have ranked in the top 33 nationally in assist rate each of the last five years.
 
In its win over Hofstra on Jan. 24, the Tribe connected on 18 3-pointers, which marked the most for the program in a CAA contest and is the highest total in the league this season. In CAA games, the Green and Gold is averaging 9.2 3-pointers per game, which ranks third in the league.
 
- The Tribe recorded a season-high 15 steals at Drexel on Jan. 10. The 15 steals rank eighth in school history and was the program's most vs. a DI opponent since 1998 when it had 16 at The Citadel. On the year, the Tribe leads the CAA in and ranks 48th nationally in steals (8.5).
 
- W&M ranks 49th nationally in turnover rate, forcing an opponent turnover on 19.7% of possessions, which leads the CAA. The Tribe forces 14.9 turnovers per game, which is 28th nationally, and converts those into 18 points per game.
 
- With its pace, W&M ranks 12th nationally in fastbreak points per game at 17.3. The Tribe is 10-3 over the last two seasons under head coach Brian Earl when scoring 20 or more fast break points in a game. In three of the last four seasons, Earl-coached team have ranked among the top 20 nationally in fast break points. W&M was 16th (14.4) last season in the category, while Cornell ranked second in 2022-23 (15.9).
 
- The Tribe possesses a balanced attack offensively with eight players averaging seven points per game, including four in double figures. In total, 12 of the Tribe's 13 players that have seen action in 2025-26 have scored in double figures at least once and nine different players have led the team in a game.
 
- W&M is once again among the fastest-paced teams in the country. According to KenPom.com (as of Feb. 4), the Tribe leads the country in fastest average length of possession on offense (13.5 seconds) and ranks sixth in adjusted tempo (73.2). Last season, the Tribe ranked third in fastest average length of possession (14.9) and 18th in adjusted tempo (71.5). In each of the last five seasons, Brian Earl-coached teams have ranked top 5 nationally in average possession length and top 25 in adjusted tempo.
 
- Earlier this season, senior Chase Lowe became just the sixth player in school history with 500 rebounds and 250 assists, joining an elite list of John Lowenhaupt '78, David Schneider '10, Omar Prewitt '17, Terry Tarpey '16, and Nathan Knight '20. He ranks seventh in the CAA this season in assists (4.1) and 16th in rebounding (5.7).
 
- Bench scoring has been a staple for Brian Earl's teams. This season, the Tribe is averaging 32.1 points per game from its reserves, which leads the CAA and ranks 24th in the country, as of Feb. 4. W&M's leading scorer has come off the bench in seven of its 14 wins this season, and the bench has produced 23 games of 10+ points led by junior Reese Miller's 12 double-digit efforts. Last year, the Tribe ranked eighth nationally in bench scoring (31.9) after Earl's final Cornell team led the country in 2023-24 (36.0).
 
- 2025 W&M alums Gabe Dorsey (Slovakia), Caleb Dorsey (Slovakia), and Matteus Case (Portugal) signed professional contracts in Europe. In total, 10 former Tribe standouts are playing professionally overseas, including Miguel Ayesa (Spain), David Cohn (Germany), Nathan Knight (South Korea), Anders Nelson (Romania), Terry Tarpey (France), Marcus Thornton (Romania), and Andy Van Vliet (Germany). Daniel Dixon '17, who won an NBA title as an assistant with the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2025, was named the head coach of the Oklahoma City Blue, the Thunder's NBA G-League affiliate, in August. Alums Chris Darnell '09 (Sacramento Kings) and Sean Sheldon (Utah Jazz) are also currently NBA assistant coaches.
