Baseball Sweeps Binghamton on Saturday

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — William & Mary baseball earned its first wins of the season in a doubleheader sweep of Binghamton on Saturday afternoon at Plumeri Park. The Tribe mashed its way to a 10-5 victory in game one before taking the nightcap by a 5-4 final.

GAME ONE
The Tribe (2-4) offense struck for 10 runs on 13 hits in the opener. Jamie Laskofski started the scoring in the first when he stole third base and advanced home on a throwing error.

After Binghamton (1-5) took a 2-1 lead in the third, W&M picked up go-ahead runs on an RBI groundout from Trey Christman and bases-loaded walk drawn by Chase Ecker.

The Tribe added to its lead in the fifth as Matthew Kosuda hit an RBI double to make it a 5-3 game. The Green & Gold took advantage of four Binghamton errors in the contest.

In the seventh, Laskofski gave W&M separation with a bases-clearing triple that made it a 9-3 ballgame. Connor Chavez added insurance in the eighth with an RBI single to drive in Louis Bartletti.

On the mound, Daniel Lingle pitched 1 ⅔ scoreless innings and got the ball to Charlie Seneker in the fifth. The freshman Seneker set down the Bearcats over four innings, allowing just one run with three strikeouts to earn the win.

Witt Scafidi went a career-best 4-for-5, scoring two runs. Four Tribe players had multi-hit performances in game one.

GAME TWO
Tom Bourque was impressive in his start, holding the Bearcats scoreless across four frames. The southpaw racked up six strikeouts and walked none.

Ecker opened the scoring with a sacrifice fly in the second inning. Later in the inning, Laskofski singled to drive in Justin Summers as W&M took a 3-0 lead.

In the third, Kosuda added to the advantage with an RBI single that made it 4-0. Kosuda went 2-for-3 in the game, driving in a pair.

Binghamton mounted a comeback, plating two runs in the fifth and seventh to tie the game at 4-4. In the bottom of the seventh, Kosuda delivered a sacrifice fly to score Jackson Woolwine in what proved to be the winning run.

Jack Weight struck out five Binghamton hitters over two innings, allowing no runs. Noah Hertzler would close the door in the eighth and ninth, registering a scoreless appearance with two strikeouts as he was credited with the win.

As a staff, W&M held Binghamton to four hits.
