RICHMOND, Va. – William & Mary field hockey midfielder
Callia Uviedo was named Coastal Athletic Association Rookie of the Week, the league office announced on Monday afternoon.
Uviedo becomes the first Tribe field hockey play to garner the honor in five years to the day when Pyper Friedman was named CAA Rookie of the Week on Oct. 5, 2021.
The Annandale, Va., product recorded three points, two goals, one assist and four shots during a 1-1 week for the Tribe.
On Friday, Uviedo scored the game-winning goal in the comeback victory against Towson at Busch Field. The rookie logged a season-high three shots and none more impactful than her back-handed strike at 43:17 mark that propelled the Tribe into the lead, which it never relinquished.
On a rainy Sunday in Williamsburg, the midfielder dished out her second assist of the season, feeding Samantha Daly to take an early lead in a back-and-forth affair with the Dukes. Additionally, she added one shot in the 3-2 setback.
Uviedo becomes the first Tribe player to win weekly honors this season. On the year, the freshman has scored one goal, ties for the team-high with two assists and has played in all 10 contests this season.
