WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — William & Mary field hockey challenged No. 20 Old Dominion in a 2-0 loss on Monday evening at Busch Field.
The Tribe (1-7) created two first-quarter shots, with
Ava Rossman sending an attempt wide and
Josie Mae Gruendel having one blocked. The Monarchs (7-2) broke through at 13:59 on Serena Langendoen's goal off Josie Painter's assist.
W&M conceded the only goal of the second quarter when ODU's Lotte Haagmans scored off a penalty corner at 22:34, moving the score to 2-0. Earlier,
Alexandra de Jesus made a save after a Monarchs penalty corner.
Hailey Haynes put the Green and Gold's lone recorded shot of the third quarter on goal less than a minute in, but Alexa Murphy made the save as the quarter stayed scoreless. ODU hit the post at 35:30 and earned a late penalty corner, but W&M thwarted the scoring chance.
The Tribe held the Monarchs scoreless in the fourth, with de Jesus making a save during an early stretch that also included two ODU penalty corners.
An
Ellen Ford shot at 54:02 was blocked before
Hayden Haynes had another attempt blocked in the closing minutes as ODU held on for the win.
