Track & Field Returns to Action at Carolina Challenge

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — William & Mary track and field will resume competition in the new year as it travels to Chapel Hill, N.C. for the Dick Taylor Carolina Challenge this weekend. The meet will take place all day on Friday and Saturday at the Eddie Smith Field House.

NEWS AND NOTES
- The track and field teams kicked off the 2025-26 season at three different meets on Dec. 4-6.

- At the Liberty Kickoff, Brian Walsh broke his own school record in the heptathlon with 5208 points. 

- At the Navy Invitational, freshman Amelia Bawcombe impressed in the weight throw with a mark of 18.42m (60'5 ¼"), the second-best performance in school history. Senior Talia Anderson came in second with a mark of 17.72m (58'1 ¾"), ranking third all-time.

- The Tribe also sent select distance runners to the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener in Boston. Perry Irons posted an impressive time of 16:05.27 in the 5000m, setting a personal record and placing her fifth all-time.

- On the men's side, Hayes Trapp crossed the finish line in 13:59.90, also ranking fifth in school history.

MEET INFORMATION
This will be the second straight year that W&M has competed at the Carolina Challenge. The meet will begin with field events on Friday at 4 p.m. before resuming on Saturday at 11 a.m. with track and field events. The last event is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.

UP NEXT
The Green & Gold will head to Blacksburg, Va. for the Hokie Invitational on Jan. 23-24 at the Rector Field House.
