WILLIAMSBURG, Va.— The William & Mary women's soccer team opens its 2025 conference slate with a pair of road matches, heading to Drexel on Thursday evening and Sunday at Towson.
The matches are scheduled for 6 p.m. and 1 p.m. respectively with both being broadcast on FloCollege.
TRIBE NOTES
Last Time Out
The Tribe undoubtedly created the majority of the scoring chances in its non-conference finale at Delaware but was unable to find the back of the net, falling to the Blue Hens 1-0 in Newark. Shots were 23-10 in the match with Delaware not placing a shot on goal until the 88
th minute. The Blue Hens were able to capitalize however, turning that chance into a goal off a rebound to escape with the win.
Mia Abbey's five shots, with three on frame, led the offensive attack for the Tribe.
Wilson's Hot Start
Whenever the Tribe has generated an attack this season there has been a good chance that
Lindsay Wilson is involved. The junior netted her team-leading fourth goal against the Virginia Tech and is now up to nine points in the first eight games. Wilson has already surpassed her career-high in both goals and points, topping her freshman season where she had seven points off two goals and three assists. She has five points over the last three games for W&M.
Ivey in Action
After being held without a point in the first three games of the year, preseason All-CAA selection
Ivey Crain has found her stride for the Tribe. With her goal at Virginia Tech, Crain has now found the back of the net in three of the last five matches for W&M. The senior from Milton, Ga. is a three-time All-CAA selection and has led the Tribe in scoring in each of her first three collegiate seasons. Her 26 career goals leave her six away from top 10 all-time in program history. Notably, World Cup winning coach Jill Ellis is the benchmark for that threshold with 32 goals.
Gettin' Shots Up
After taking just 14 total shots over its first two games, the Green and Gold has emphasized its offensive attack as of late. Over the last six contests the Tribe is averaging 13.7 shots per game and posted a season-high 23 last time out against Delaware.
CAA Openers
The opening game of the conference slate has yielded positive results for the Tribe over recent history. W&M is 3-0-2 in its last five CAA lid lifters, including two road wins the last two seasons. The first of those two away victories was at Drexel in the 2023 opener, a 2-1 win.
Nationally Ranked Result
The draw for W&M against No. 20 Virginia Tech was the program's first result against a nationally ranked opponent since tying No. 6 Hofstra in October of 2021.
Scouting Drexel
Drexel has played nine matches on the 2025 campaign with six resulting in ties and heads in the CAA season with a 1-2-6 record. The Dragons lone victory was against Philly rival Saint Joseph's. Their lone common opponent with the Tribe is Delaware, playing the Hens to a 0-0 draw. Drexel was picked last in the CAA North Preseason Poll.
Scouting Towson
Towson enters CAA play picked in the middle of the pack in the CAA North Preseaon Poll. The Tigers carry a 2-2-3 non-conference record into the week and will open league play by hosting Hampton on Thursday. Towson has also played Delaware, tying them 2-2, and are unbeaten at home this season with a 1-0-2 mark.
